This weekend, Barra del Colorado in Costa Rica’s Atlantic Beach, witnessed the 61st Tarpon Sports Fishing Tournament that was organized by the Amateur Fishing Belabour.  A total of 30 amateur sport fishers showed up for the outcome that showed off the best game fish in the Caribbean coast.

The prize fish everyone was after was the quick and elusive Silver King.  Contestants all agreed that in order to reel in the Silver King, a combination of procedure and strength are necessary to achieve this goal.

Local and foreign sport fishers senior out to the warm Atlantic waters this weekend to test their skills against each other in a conservation matey competition.  The tarpon is considered one of the eight top game fish due to its intelligence, elusiveness and of obviously its unique color, dorsal fin and mouth.

A total of two contestants were assigned per row-boat and vessels exchanged positions throughout the tournament in order to follow the fish.  The event required each contestant to reel in the fish and immediately release it back to sea.  Each take and release carried out by a contestant was worth 100 points.

The 61st Tournament was won by Manolo Fernandez who completed 6 on to and release during the 6 day-long tournament.  Second place was won by Domingo Dominguez with a thorough of 400 points for his 4 completed catch and releases.

Barra del Colorado is located in Costa Rica’s Caribbean slide near Tortuguero and can be accessed by air for under 30 minutes or by land and boat a baby over 5 hours.  A number of lodges and sport fishing services can be very likely found in Barra del Colorado.
