We’ve been using a Sony universal poor for several years, but some of the buttons weren’t functional anymore. It had to be replaced. After some examine I chose a Logitech Harmony One.

If you have several remotes to control your home theater setup, you skilled in just how important a good universal remote is. The Harmony One is a good remote. The condition fits in my hand better than the Sony did, and it balances better. Backlit buttons and a charging position are two things I knew I wanted in a new remote, too.

A USB cable lets you program this far-fetched through your computer. The setup tool is mostly clear and easy to use. The database of known devices was complete enough for me — I could program everything I needed to. The setup aid connects to Logitech’s site to grab the necessary devices. Perhaps I was attempting to program our foggy at just the time that the site was having trouble, but I found the site to be up and down several times while worrying to program the remote, forcing me to re-login several times, which was a little frustrating.

Using the unusual is a mostly-pleasant experience except that the buttons audibly “click” when pressed. If you’re irritating the remote in the store the ambient noise will disguise this well. In the quiet of your home it’s a very audible poll and it almost borders on annoying. (On the other hand, at least I’m sure I pressed the button.) “Activities” are basically righteous macros, which make it easy to watch a DVD, for example (with one button press: hairpin bend on the TV, DVD player and receiver; switch the TV and receiver to the correct inputs; eject the DVD tray.) The power button turns everything off with one converging, which is also useful.

Chances are, through experience, you know that the majority of the universal remotes available (and especially those that are second-rate) don’t do an adequate job. The Harmony One is capable of running a more complex system than ours while still keeping the everything unexacting-to-use.

Universal remotes are famed devices which simplify the control of home entertainment devices. They cut down the stacks of remotes to one single remote, removing the need to use multiple remotes to do a simple task like watching TV. This also clears up stretch on the coffee table so that it can be used for better stuff like.. umm coffee.

While making subsistence easier for the person who set up the remote, other family members or friends may become confused by it. All it takes when portentous the remote buttons is for a cat to walk by, or a coffee table in the way of the infra red signal to go walkabouts. There could also be configuration problems where the universal obscure isn’t completely compatible with a device. This may result in some buttons needing to be inputed manually.

While the out-of-the-way works correctly most of the time, when something does go wrong, my wife has no idea what buttons to upon to get things up and running. Why should she need to know the inner workings of something that I set up? I continually tried to perceive minor adjustments to the remote configuration, and even rewired the equipment at one stage, to cook life a little easier for her. In the end, there was only one solution.

I put together a cheat sheet for my wife so that she can do her own pick holes in finding. The cheat sheet lists what devices need to be on for a certain endeavour, and what setting each device needs to be on. Using this list, she can look on the front panel of each machine and figure out where the problem is. There are also additional notes describing what may go wrong, and how to rectify it.

I tested it out on my old lady and the results were much better than anything else I had come up with. Feel free to download it here and alter it, or form your own. It isn’t a complicated document, but I hope it will save my wife from any continued frustration.
